50,000 Shaders in After Effects + C4D's UV Editor Gets a Full Rebuild | Motion Mondays

Cinema 4D 2026.3 drops a completely rebuilt UV editor, Houdini 22 rigs and animates Gaussian splats, and a veteran commercial director asks if we're the last generation of 3D artists.

C4D's new UV editor is a ground-up rebuild on the modern viewport architecture - explicit seams, UDIM support, and three new MoGraph distributions. Houdini 22 treats splats as a first-class production format: train, relight, rig, and animate them inside Houdini. Daniel Danielsson's predicts 10% of artists will get 90% of the work by 2028. BUCK publishes a machine-readable page on their website specifically for AI agents to stay relevant in AI-assisted vendor search.

Also this week: GPUDog brings 50,000 Shadertoy shaders into After Effects in real time, Pixel Lab dropped a free Gaussian splat pack called Ancient Assets, and Canva's Magic Layers turns a flat AI image into an animatable layered file. Blender 5.2 adds a Thin Wall mode that solves thin-surface translucency, Take Control turns C4D's Take system into a drag-and-trim shot timeline, and Neat is a free Chrome extension for saving and organizing visual inspiration. SOM releases a free Unreal Engine plugin called Node Ninja that will save you a ton of time creating PBR Materials.
